Crochet book by Panda

I finally handed over my last sample to Morris and Sons yesterday and spent a little bit of my credit!

Recently I have seen around really nice crochet books (among them Simply Crochet by Debbie Bliss, the dress on cover page is absolutely gorgeous).

So I had a quick look and found this great catalogue! The pictures are stunning, and I love the model (it does matter when I pick a pattern, it has to be enhanced by the photograph). It actually made me think of getting a new haircut haha! What do you think?

Anyway I had two favourites, this sweater on the right:

And this tee:

Et ce tee-shirt :

I finally decided on the latter, I am obsessed with the sleeves... I got black and pink yarn, I am thinking of the bodice in the black, and a pop of colour only on the sleeves.

I meant to knit this sweater for a loooong time now, and finally did it! So here you go, this is what Morris and Sons credit allowed me to buy: 100% alpaca yarn for a total of about $80.

I feared that the alpaca would actually be itchy when I was knitting it, but it was probably due to me sweating the hell out because as soon as I put it on on a cooler day I very much enjoyed the soft feeling!

This is so perfect for a lazy Sunday in the park or at home knitting on the couch. I've already worn it at work and I can tell this is going to become an all-time favourite...

I promised my (future) sister-in-law to knit a headband for her ages ago... It was supposed to be a crochet flower instead of the bow at first, but for the life of me, I couldn't find a nice and explicit pattern. I eventually knitted this little bow (similar to the one on my ring).

SOIE

TAILLE D'AIGUILLE : 3mm
ECHANTILLON : 25m et 32rgs
METRAGE : 165m
COLORIS : brun
COMPOSITION : 100% soie
NEEDLE SIZE: 3mm
GAUGE: 25st and 32 rows
YARDAGE: 165m
COLOUR: brown
COMPOSITION: 100% silk

Christmas was almost a month ago (!) but I am not yet done with my present distribution. What about you? If you ever need a little gift idea, quick to make, this headband is just what you want.

The silk is amazingly soft, however the chocolate colour is definitely not for me. When John's sister asked me for a headband (in June last year I think...) and told me she liked brown, I jumped at the chance (well.. crawled at the chance to be more precise u_u). So here it finally is, very simple, and knitted in the round.

His sister wanted a flower but after my 10th attempt to crochet it, I decided to switch to a knitted bow (which I am very fond of anyway huhu).

Bon week-end ;)

The headband is warm (what is not with this weather though - 35 degrees today) and as I was saying magically soft soft soft soft. Definitely a yarn that inspires me and that I could buy (the "fer" colour by example, the shade looks amazing).

Have a great week-end ;)

SHIRT - New Look Pattern 6194

Despite the atrocious look of this multi-pattern, it contains some pearls, and among them the top A. I have had in mind to sew a t-shirt for a while, but for my first time, I wanted to start off an existing pattern. The shape of this one was roughly what I imagined.

After the pattern was purchased and back home, I realised it asked for a silky fabric and a zipper... No worries my fabric is stretchy so I don't need a zipper (fingers crossed because I am not that confident in sewing just yet, but it worked!) I also skipped the darts for an even easier pattern.

The shape is the most simple ever (4 pieces to cut in the fabric) and the t-shirt was made in one afternoon.

I am very happy with my bias and the collar sewing, but not as much with the sleeves and bottom hem... I pulled the fabric too much while sewing and of course it is all puckered.

Next time I will try with a neutral color too and a leopard bias, ooh yeah...
I hope to sew the pants this week-end, giving it a little boyfriend look :)

Happy New Year 2014

Happy New Year 2014 everyone!
- a bit late but I am trying to catch up with everything slowly -

I have some good resolutions, like every year:

I started a paleo diet a week ago now (you must have seen it on Instagram if you follow me) and it is going very well. John took the decision to have a healthier lifestyle and first things first it had to begin with food. Le paleo diet is a bit complicated but you can have a look on google it is extremely interesting. I had already stopped having dairies because of my allergies and bread, flour, and legumes are now also excluded. I will let you know if I see any improvements (or not).

The diet has to be combined... with exercise of course :) I talked to you about Cassey Ho before and she is just amazing. This time around, I started with the beginner calendar before actually getting into it in February. It has been 2 weeks and I am already an addict! Every day I watch the videos, it is quite time consuming but I am hoping it will just become a normal part of my daily routines.

Finally, still a lot of crafty projects, and this year I am definitely getting more into sewing, without forgetting knitting. Actually this is one of my projects that I have been longing to start for a while (I just have to take the time to design the pattern).

I have already purchased the yarn (100% merino wool), disappointed they didn't have neon yellow but I think the pink is vibrant enough and will go well with this shade of grey.

Et vous, quelles sont vos bonnes résolutions?
What about your good resolutions??

Dinosaurs terrarium

I started my new job 3 weeks ago and I received so many gifts for Christmas: wine bottle, Swarowski pen, The Body Shop set, a Tea2 porcelain cup, and an overwhelming amount of chocolate and lollies.

I also wanted to gift my team members and I saw this Western Terrarium DIY on Kollabora. I loved the idea and went right away to Vinnies to find adequate jars. I got these ice cream cups (but I think if I had to do it again, I would go for deeper vases so I could make thicker layers).

I looked for cow boys/ indians figurines but couldn't find any, probably not super trendy these days. However dinosaurs are everywhere (and it turns out I love dinosaurs...) so scored a big figurines box for $3 at K-Mart.

I was amazed at Bunnings choice regarding the plants and fell for 3 cacti (1 of them actually giving flowers) and 3 succulents (2 of them also flowering)

Last stop: Coogee Beach to get some sand, and here we go!

I am a tiny bit anxious and I hope they will like it... What do you think? Is it too childish?

I am a little late for this Bergère de France post because I started my new job last Wednesday (and no I hadn't planned the articles ahead...) and between the Secret Santa / Kris Kringle on Thursday at the Harbour drinking cocktails all afternoon - you can imagine I haven't done anything that night... and my Morris&Sons deadline (I have been a bit crazy there and I will show you soon) I haven't been the most productive.

I spent ages picking the pattern and I have knitted and unraveled at least three times. This yarn didn't take it very well actually but never broke.
The mix is very fibrous so "hair" everywhere, and I find the knitted piece a bit rough, clearly not nice on the skin. As a beanie it is all right but I wouldn't make a jumper out of this wool.

I eventually chose this pattern (both in French and English). I have seen other similar ones but I like that this one is knitted flat in a very smart way in one piece - while the others start by the cable bit, cast off, and pick up stitches out of this first bit and knit the rest in the round (have I ever mentioned that I dislike knitting in the round?)

Yes ALL RIGHT I don't have a sister per se  but as my brother just got engaged, I figured his fiancée is entering the family and could get the role.

PUR MERINOS FRANCAIS

TAILLE D'AIGUILLE : 4mm
ECHANTILLON : 20m et 28rgs
METRAGE : 120m
COLORIS : brique
COMPOSITION : 100% mérinos d'Arles
NEEDLE SIZE: 4mm
GAUGE: 20st and 28 rows
YARDAGE: 120m
COLOUR: brique

For this third part of the Bergere de France challenge, I decided to knit handwarmers with the Pur mérinos français yarn. I thought about what to make for quite a while (almost as long as the time spent on knitting) and I made a few trials before going for this pretty lacy pattern.

I have to say the quality of this wool is quite amazing (and doesn't itch a bit) but it hasn't been my favourite yarn to knit so far and mainly because of the uneven result. It is actually quite hard to get an impeccable knit (and even more when you knit in the round of course but that's a whole different story <- me not a fan). Closer it looks like this:

In any case, it is very very very warm that's for sure (she says while sweating during the photoshoot).

Regarding the pattern, as I said it is knitted in the round which I am not terribly fond of... I have actually never knitted any socks because it has to be made in the round and I just don't enjoy it, even with the magic loop I find it uncomfortable and you have to stop way too often to pull the thread and move the stitches on your needles.
